Hey! I’m Allison 🙂

I am the Technology Integration Specialist for the Lansing School District. I support 27 buildings – which breaks down to about 1,250 teachers and around 11,000 students. It’s CRAZY town most of the time, but I love it. Prior to this role, I taught middle school Social Studies and English. It was one of the most challenging and amazing things I’ve ever done. I adore working with kids – they never cease to surprise, inspire, amuse, challenge, and amaze me. You can see more about my classroom teaching experience here

We recently passed a large bond that will continue to transform learning opportunities for students by focusing on a variety of pathways for students to engage in the world. Utilizing STEM, STEAM, foreign language immersion, Biomedical, and arts focused education in addition to community partnerships, students in the Lansing School District will have access to a myriad of educational opportunities. I’m so excited to integrate new technologies in the district – from transitioning to GSuite district-wide, to connecting with schools and students all over the world, to allowing students to take ownership of their learning and be creators, problem-solvers, and world-changers.

America Achieves, the parent organization of MiEdVoice, was established as a way to help elevate the voice of teachers and schools throughout the country. As a fellow, I shared the powerful stories that are happening in Lansing and around the state. There are 100 fellows in Michigan and I was incredibly humbled to serve as a fellow. The program did not get funded for the 2016-2017 year in Michigan, but I continue to lean on this network of educators who advocate for students, teachers, and the future of education in our state and country.

Additionally, I serve as the Social Media Chair for the ISTE Technology Coordinators PLN. I run our Twitter account, moderate monthly Twitter chats, and am planning our social gathering for ISTE 2018 in Chicago. The ISTE Network is an amazing amalgam of teachers, tech coordinators, tech coaches, tech directors and more, and I learn so much from them. Attending the annual conference is a true blessing and I always come back more inspired and excited than before!

Outside of the work day, I enjoy being active, listening to Hamilton on repeat, running, and working out at my gym. I have completed one full marathon and countless half marathons. Lansing has a beautiful River Trail with miles of paved trails that provides safe and beautiful surroundings to pound the pavement! I really like to read and watch the Tigers. I am a bit of a baseball fanatic, so spring and summer are my favorite times of year. One of these days, fall will be my favorite because the Tigers will be playing for a World Series. Until then, I usually am sad about baseball being over in September…I also love to travel. My favorite place I’ve been to so far is Washington, D.C., and I am planning on FINALLY making it to Europe this summer.

I love baseball!
